Why gadget Insurance?

gadgets

Many people, instead of insuring their home contents are now turning to gadget insurance policies, as they see their gadget and mobile phones as the most valuable and at-risk items they own.

These policies can be taken out for one or several gadgets on the one policy. If you think you could lose or break your phone, these policies can be useful as they limit the number of claims made on your
home insurance policy. Parents are particularly wary of covering their children’s (student) phone under their home insurance policy, as they fear claims for phones will impact on their home insurance premium, as they are more likely to happen.

When taking out your Gadget Insurance policy you should check the cover carefully to ensure it covers you for things like dropping your gadget in the bath or having it pick-pocketed on the train. Insurers will always expect you to take reasonable precautions to prevent loss so don’t think that you can just drop your gadget to get the latest model.

Cover tends to include the following:

  • A set number of days abroad (to cover you while you are on holidays)..
  • Theft.
  • Accidental damage (cracked screen, liquid damage).
  • Accidental loss.

It is very common that there will be an age restriction on the gadget that you wish to cover as specialist gadget insurance polices tend to limit the age of the gadget to be insured to around 3 years old.
